Heat-treated 8740 chromoly rod bolts use rolled threads for durable connecting-rod retention.
For Pontiac 326/389/400/455 V8, 1963 and later, 3/8-inch rod bolt, these ARP® connecting-rod bolts are manufactured from heat-treated 8740 chromoly steel with threads rolled after heat-treating for improved fatigue strength. ARP recommends checking rod-bolt stretch during installation; the exact stretch and torque values are specific to the kit part number.
